Joseph Campbell's monomyth proposes that narratives from around the world follow a basic pattern where the main character, or hero, leaves the common world and enters a supernatural world, achieves a victory, and then returns to the regular world with powers to help others.

Students are presented with an open-ended question and given a short, set amount of time to write their response.
