Art and Science of Teaching: Cognitive Verbs and the Common Core by Robert J. Marzano

The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) require students to learn and be able to correctly use cognitive verbs, also called “academic vocabulary”; educators are tasked with teaching these words. In this September 2013 article, Robert J. Marzano provides an organized list of 227 cognitive verbs separated into 24 semantic categories. Using this list, Marzano outlines five steps teachers can follow to help students develop their understanding of these words. Read the article here.
