**Parabola**: A section of a cone where a right circular conical surface intersects with a plane parallel to a generating straight line of that surface. Given a point (focus) and a corresponding line (directrix) on the plane, a parabola is the locus of points in that plane that are equidistant from them. It looks like a U or V shape and can open in any direction.
